Schloss Neuschwanstein-Most Romantic Castle

Nothing you love is lost. Not really. Things, people - they always go away, sooner or later. You can't hold them, any more than you can hold moonlight. But if they've touched you, if they're inside you, then
they're still yours. The only things you ever really have are the ones you hold inside your heart.
---Unknown

Note: this is not so budget idea of traveling in Germany, but its worth the trip if you see the castle your self.

Still riding our rent car in beuaty of Bavaria land.... riding through the "Romantic Road". Mr T and i hopelessly romantic people errhh me actually hahahaha... but he took me to this most inspiring places for love, not only love for a person but also to art and other thing (i called this "passion")

As usual Mr T never told me whats the schedule for today, so we ride on our cherry red car (rent car) and drive along the autobahn for several hours. The scenery is breathtaking...  we stop over on a lake with amazing view of the Alps.. its just reminds me of the "Highlander" tv series.. ehehe...

**Click on pictures if you want to see it bigger**

Lake Alpsee near Neuschwanstein castle

The Königswinkel or literally Kings Corner is a large area of natural beauty. It includes the towns of Füssen and Schwangau as well as Pfronten and the resort village on Lake Hopfensee. This is as part of the romantic road that i mention before.... romantic roads is the trader roads its consist of the most breathtaking scenery and most beautiful medieval castles and parks in the world..

To get here by train just take the train (Deutsche Bahn) to Füssen direction, then at Fussen station take the bus RVA/OVG 73 in the direction to Steingaden / Garmisch-Partenkirchen or the bus RVA/OVG 78 in the direction to Schwangau until you reach the stop Hohenschwangau / Alpseestraße. From here you could either goes by foot or use bus with departure point: Schlosshotel Lisl. The bus goes via Bleckenaustraße to the "Jugend" lookout point (Marienbrücke) from where it is about 600 m or a 10-15 minute walk on a steep downhill path to the entrance of the castle (its beautiful!).

On the bottom of the castle we go to the parking and walk for around 1 kms for the ticketing and information on a building "Konigs Schlosser" with grey roof near the Mueller Hotel. You could get the ticket for both castles online too. But the day i went there there are less queue so we could get the ticket pretty easy.

There are literally hundreds people there that i could see... all colors.. ages... languages its amazing! The entrance ticket for this castle is 12 Euro, we pick the English guided tour. You could choose the audio guide too if you like. The guided tour only in two language English or Germany, while the audio guide with more variable languages; Japanese, Frenchm Spanish, Porteguese, Italian, Dutch, Czech, Russian, Polish, Mandarin, Hungarian and Slovenian. We only had less than 1 hour to get up there, so we rushed to get some lunch near the ticketing, i had rice for the very first time since i step foot in Germany!!! heheh thanks to Mr T he order my fave food, but somehow its just different :p

Place to buy ticket and get information

On the ticket printed the TIME TO ENTER THE CASTLE, please notice this, as you will need to be at the castle entrance as the printed time there. Also your group numbers and the ticket only valid for the day on the specific tour only.

So with less time we watch the horse carriage humm its pretty slow... the horse carriage is 6 Euro uphill and 3 Euro down hill, and you have wait in front of Mueller Hotel for the horse carriage.

As for us, first we plan for the horse ride. And I am afraid of horse hahaha... then we decide to walk up. I told Mr T that i am more firt than him, as last time we went holiday in Macau he can't walk too long! we race to the top. The temperature its too cold for me, maybe around 14-15 degrees, so i like running or walking fast to make me feel warmer!

Race to the castle its good when its cold!
It only took us about 20 minutes (fast walk-don't try this if you're not that fit!) faster than riding horse! but be aware of horse poop on the street!! the air is fresh but yah... thats the problem sometimes you could inhale those pretty ...smelly of fresh horse poop too.. hehehe...

Its is worth the walk the view above is beautiful i can't help it but stand still there, try to catch every glimpse of it. The smell of fresh air and the grass.. the view of mountains and lakes... also the sound of winds, the sound of cow bells, and some goats.. i feel this is Germany! hehehe somehow very different... skies blue and everything beautiful!

The castle!
I will say i agree that people called King Ludwig II as an insane king. Its is insanity to build such beautiful castle! the view and the castle it self so amazing! This castle was build for King fave artist Richard Wagner. Its not even finished until the day that the King found dead on the lake near the castle--tragic.. but thats how most of the great people end up ...sadly. Its still a mystery though how King Ludwig II die... he just found dead on the lake, whether its a suicide or its a murder.. none know.... so much for a opera lover....

View from the castle!
This castle built meant to blend with the scenery surrounding it. Its just looks like a huge play stage. The backgrounds with mountains, lakes and King Ludwig beloved land the Bavarian land... stood still with grace the wonderful Neuschwanstein Castle.

Tragically, this castle was built be a private refuge, “sacred and out of reach” (“heilig und unnahbar”), but these days host to thousands of tourists each day. Another irony: although it was built largely as a stage for Wagnerian productions (“a worthy temple for the divine friend [Robert Wagner]”), the composer never set foot in Neuschwanstein. Nor was the castle’s throne room ever completed in time to contain a throne it self.

Some more pictures of the castles

This castle project named by Ludwig with “Neue Burg Hohenschwangau” or “New Castle Hohenschwangau” because it was build on a castle ruins. Only later, when the castle was opened to the public on August 1, 1886, just weeks after Ludwig’s death, did the edifice come to be known as “Neuschwanstein” (“new swan stone”). I think its related to most of the castle detail with swans his fave animals (door handle, pictures, water tap, etc) but swans also a heraldic animal of the Counts of Schwangau, whose successor the king considered himself to be. It is also the Christian symbol of the "purity" for which Ludwig strived.

More Neuschwanstein castle pictures

Just too bad that we can not take pictures inside the castle! the tour took 36 minutes and i felt like in a movie already! its just like storybook... everything..it was built 1868 but everything still in good condition. My fave room would be the king chambers ofcourse. Its fascinate me because he had his own reading corner. Also everything with swan :) and ohhh had to see the King toilet.. very first modern toilet with flush.. hahah if you consider this is important the castle also had forced air central heating system (i think this is a very good fact).

Another important fact? the King had electric bells to call his servant! oh beside the toilet all the tap had cold and hot water system... isnt this fit for the insanity those days? nope.. i think thats why people call him crazy.. because they see thats as crazy stuff (like when we heard about the newest iphone product or new car model wesay "hey thats insane dude!!")

The kitchen also amazingly modern for a building that built in 1800. Everything is modern! well you wont find any electric stuff yet here.. but its just like a normal kitchen these days! well the castle construction it self last until 23 years even after the king death!

Oh another sad part.. king only spent 11 days here in the castle! after all of the hard works!

View from the castle, one of my fave is the Marianbrucke (bridge)

After finishing touring inside we walk to the Marienbrucke. A stunning bridge where you could see the castle from distance. It was amazing! i think this is also the best spot for taking Neuschwanstein castle pictures.

View from Marienbrucke-good for bungee jump!

I said to Mr T can we do bungee from here? he said "no, you're crazy" heheheh i know that....

Pictures of Neuschwanstein from Marienbrucke
The bridge also had lots of lock with names.. just the same with Paris.... and some are soooo romantic!!

*sigh* see... this is why i said its just romantic!!

From the bridge we want to use the bus to go down... but then some large group of India tourist "hack" the bus, disrespecting the long queue of people who already wait there over 20 mins made Mr T upset, and i said... nope.. thats not Indonesian (mingkem dot com) heheheh

Its not a nice thing to do... i hate it when someone do that to a long queue. The temperature down again until i could see fogs when i breate.. so i can not stand still any longer, i told Mr T better if we walk.. so we did!

India tourist "hacking" Neuschwanstein tourist bus..doohh Calcutta style i guess

We walk down the hill and he took unusual path, that i swear if we ever got lost i'm going to bite him!! grrrhh! but then we arrive near the parking but don't try the alternative roads its very slippery!

Europe trip; book your ticket online!

I would say most of the transport ticket during my trip to Europe was booked while i was sitting nicely in deep Sumatra jungle a.ka while i was on my working day in remote place and while at home (where i have to sit on the porch dancing with mosquitoes and trying to get full bars signal at same time).

There are more than one traveling website that said we must book in advance to get the cheap ticket to Europe, and it does really work that way. The more you sit and wait to the departure date the more the price sky high!! do not wait, book your Europe trip tickets early! (6 months in advance better!!).

The thing you need for online booking? of course, good internet speed, and a credit card!! ^,^

The tickets that i got online is my return flight with Lufthansa from Singapore to Paris and Munich to Singapore, which is open jaw (i think i will explain about what open jaw is somewhere). Also i got my self a return Eurolines bus ticket from Paris to Brussels. And the last one is the train ticket from Paris to Strassbourg i order it from SNCF website.

For the Lufthansa flight ticket i got help from a travel agent, since my credit card limit only like $500 and the flight total cost is around US$900 (return).

And the Eurolines buses, i did it my self, with my very limited French, yepp i did the website is in FRENCH language maybe that time i was so careless that i didn't see the top right side for ENGLISH language, but the link i gave here already in English.

The same thing happens for the train ticket from SNCF, its all in FRENCH language. Oh dear... do use the online google translator for your kindness if you don't know FRENCH language!! First page is in English but when you about to go to SNCF booking page (when you click "buy a ticket" button on the top left previous web) it doesnt have "english options" well again unless if i really did missed the button of course!!

But the truth, with my very limited French, i could easily book the buses ticket and the train without hassles! its not that hard, really!

Most of the ticket that i got are with cheap fare/promotion rate. For return bus ticket i got it for 18 Euro (Paris-Brussels-Paris) and for the train ticket---well this is the most amazing one, FIRST CLASS on TGV train, which is the super fast train, i got the very last seat offer for 40 Euro only!!! the normal rate for TGV train 1st class is above 100 Euro, and 2nd class is like 36-40 Euro or something so, i got it dirt cheap!!! hehehe.... (the advantage of joining the mailing list!! they will alert you for cheap price!!) sometimes the last minute deal could be this cheap, so keep your eyes open on the website!

For the train from this website you still had many other choice for trains. I think the cheapest train is the sleeper class at night/night train. But from Paris to Strasbourg where  i want to go to its only took like 2 hours and i dont need the sleeper class! oh and also, the 2nd class not that much difference than 1st class, so no worry about the comfort thing.. its only 2 hours trip! (train is very clean and nice also!!)

Don't wait too long! its worth the online booking!! (price & the QUEUE-its killin'!!)

Europe, shall we??

Ferry jam 2 siang.

Whatever lah…  sudah cek in aku turun lagi ke bawah buat check in tas aku. Disini di bilang kalo tas beratnya dibawah 20 kilo FREE, tapi kemudian si bapak suruh aku bayar Rp 10.000,- yah bodohnya aku ketika terima recipt/tanda terima aku gak baca.. ternyata di recipt yang dikasihnya juga biaya RP 00,00,- wew!!! Baru nyadar waktu dah naik ke boat!! Ahhh pungli!! Dasar INDONESIAAAAA!!
Self Reminder:Selalu periksa kwitansi apapun!

Heh aku bilang liburan backpacking. Dia senyum2… hehe baik juga… passport di stempel dan akujalan menuju mesin xray.. huhu pilihan yang sulit untuk jujur.. mau masuk ke jalur “have something to declare” atau “nothing to declare” hahahah aku mantap jalan di “nothing to declare”. Mudah2an gak ada yang bunyi2 atau di suruh bongkar tas!! Malunya booo….

Jadi shoppibng sedikit2 sambil nunggu waktu keberangkatan.

Dah dekat dengan waktu keberangkatan aku langsung ke ruang tunggu gate.. errh masih belum buka, lampunya aja masih matee.. yah sutra, aku liat ada kursi massage buat kaki gratisan.. lumayan, duduk di sana sekitar setengah jam hohoh recommended time sih Cuma 10 mebnit tapi berhubung orang Indonesia kali yee kalo gak setengah jam di pijat gak manteb..  yah sutra… merem melek di kursi pijat…

Balik lagi ke ruang tunggu.. errh dah rame, langsung habisin air di botol minum, tapi botol aqua aku simpan dalam back pack, namanya bekpeker berguna nantinya...

Surprise, flight Singapore-Munich, aku mahluk paling eksotis! Rusia??? Jadi sumber perhatian jadi gerah juga, aku belagak sibuk dengan ipod hohoh.. ge-er diliatin terus.. (mungkin para bule mikir nih anak nyasar!)
Boarding pass flight akyuuh!
Biasa aja sih…. Berhubung tinggi aku 173cm jadi ruangan kaki yah..biasa aja… kalo aku ukuran standard cewek Indonesia yang sekirtar 155-160 mungkin rada lega kali ya… di sebelah aku duduk cowok dari belanda, keknya dia traveling sama 3 orang temannya. Mereka ketawa melulu saling lempar joke kali ya..(gak lucu kalo lempar sepatu).

Sial!

KEK RUMAH BONEKA!!! Padang rumput luaaaasss banget dengan kincir angin buat listrik.. ohhh my!!!!

Ingat soal connecting flight aku ke Paris yang Cuma jarak 30 menit aku Tanya sama pramugari, errrhhh kok jawabannya GAK TAU??? I don’t know gitu lohh…. Mate aja lohh.. katanya bakalan di urusin!

Ternyata cowok yang sebelah aku flightnya jarak Cuma 1 jam dan dia aja dah nyerah gak bakalan on time dia bilang huhuhu gimana dengan dirikyuuu….. dia angkat bahu sambil bilang, “HOPE YOU’RE A GOOD RUNNER” huaaaahhhhh! Mate aja.. kalo runner gak masalah Cuma bawa tas ranmsel ini… Cuma run kemana geto looohh!!

(sempat2nya aku mikir gitu ya).. tapi itulah selama lari ngebirit aku liat mahluk disini cakep2 semua, ramping, kaki jenjang, hidungnya bagus semuaaaaaaaaaa!! Huaduuuhhhhh!! *tahan diri*

Hiyyaaaa….

Lewat kali pertama, alarm bunyi.. hah?? Di suruh copot jaket..

Alarm bunyi lagi waktu aku lewat..disurut copot sepatu sama ikat pinggang, lewat SEKALI LAGI.....
BUNYI LAGI!! Apa de heck!! Body search sama meraka, gila apa!! aku disuruh lewat lagi..dan..

Bunyi lagi, dan pake metal detector setelah body search yang ke dua and do you know apa yang bunyi beep???

Sumpah lo, gue liatin yang periksa DO I HAVE TO TAKE IT OFF TOO??? Sambil melotot. Doi nyengir, sukur cakep huh!!!

Ganti pakaian, cuci muka sama sikat gigi, dandan lagi…. Lumayan fresh!

Ke ruang tunggu flight selanjutnya di gate 18. Dah ada beberapa orang di sana.. sekali lagi.. the only asian girl hohohoh…. Diliatin terus jadi tersipu2 gerah hahahah! Norak dot com. Mungkin tampang dah kelewat eksotis gara2 gak mandi hahah!

Update soal perjalanan aku ke Eropa;

Kota B to C (dengan bus/kereta/kapal)
Kota C to A (dengan airlines X)

Buru-buru cari data soal Munich airport sama Lufthansa.

Setelah aku browsing, menurut Airport Munich mereka memang jagonya transit 30 menitan.

(boro2.. delay aja sampe 3 jam!!)

Re-Route! (pre-Europe travel madness, the route and the Flights)

Its been awhile since my last post, so i better give an update on several things that i've done lately regarding my preparation.

Right after got the visa i plan a "re-route". Originally the plan is go straight to Germany and spent the whole 2 weeks there exploring as much as possible German until June 3rd. But then i saw a discount on flights to Paris. And after comparing the flights ticket it will be cheaper if i fly to Paris from Singapore. And also fount out that Munich to Singapore also not that bad.

So my final route would be: Singapore-Paris-Munich-Singapore. I fly with Lufthansa Airways.

Is this going to affect my visa since i got it from Germany Embassy?

No, since the longest stay will be in Germany, i think i will be all right. Beside that... on my way to go to Paris, my flight had transit in Munich. So i got my first Schengen stamp in Munich Germany! so its all right because my first entry will be from Germany! and i got the multiple entry visa too! so its very convenient!

one of Munich airport picture that i like

Why i fly with Lufthansa? well after several days juggling between the needs of cheap flights also considering the dates and the "lay over" time that will consume my short holidays... it was between Qatar Airlines and Lufthansa. But then i see the Qatar lay over was in Doha and its for 8 hours!

Read again the reviews about Doha, i simply pick Lufthansa, and spent more time in Singapore rather in Doha! Doha seemed out f nowhere airport, pretty small and i read not much people like it! if i had to spent sometimes in airport it better had at least clean and good toilet!

Hope i wont missed this sign at Munich!!

But the crazy part is..... my layover in Munich to switch flight to Paris would be only 30 minutes! i was un aware of this! this is he very first time i book flights with connections! so this is a very good lesson for me!

But then i read about Munich airport its basically the home of Lufthansa Airlines. And they claim they could possibly do the 30 minutes connecting time because thats how the Munich airport designed (for a smooth connections??). Wow... that would be a "sprint" event for me! why this could possibly happens?

First they claim that they had an easy orientation. Well.. ok if they had all of the board signs and everything.. i know.. but then when we panicking we tends not to see details and end up lost easily because we missed just 1 turn! also how do i run with my luggage?

OMG!! hope i wont mistaken the terminal directions

Then they also add this; high speed luggage system. I don't really know how this work, its just said they had this "modern" luggage system  with high speed conveyor and monitored by their employees around the clock. So the 30 minutes is enough for all the security check that needed and to get the luggage from one to another flight.

They also had the Hub Control Center (HCC) and a key element of the HCC is the Connex Center, where a team of experts is in charge of ensuring that passengers and their baggage reach their connecting flights. They maintain constant contact with air traffic control, can request priority landing clearance and reassign gate positions to minimize the distance that connecting passengers have to cover. So i hope these guys did notice that someone from Singapore is going to be on one of the less than 30 minutes flights to Paris!! please do arrange my plane right next to my next plane hahahah!

Oh.. another thing is...Even when incoming flights are delayed, leaving less than the required 30 mins. to make connections, the HCC team pulls out all the stops, dispatching the special "Ramp Direct Service" (RDS) to pick up passengers and their luggage right at the gate and drive them directly to their connecting flight!

I think when i arrive i wont had chance to look around :(

When incoming flights are delayed, RDS picks up passengers and their luggage directly at the aircraft. The driver welcomes the passengers at the apron, checks the tickets, registers the luggage numbers and drives passengers directly to their connecting flight.

If customs and passport control are required, RDS drives the passengers directly to a special RDS ramp-side check-point. In the meantime the Ground Handling Service delivers the luggage directly to the plane.

Terminal 2 Where Lufthansa based in Munich Airport

With Gate Direct Service (GDS), transfer passengers are met at their arrival gate and are escorted to their connecting departure gate. Both RDS and GDS emphasize Munich Airport’s reputation as the most advanced and fastest hub airport in Europe!!

Ok.. i think i will be all right with the 30 minutes transit time to switch the flight... huff.. i should write the experience tho... i tried to browse google about this but oh my less information! i believe that its not only me who experience this!

I will write down my own experience with Munich airport and its facilities soon! let see if they could super fast check me in to my flight to Paris!
